Alarms have been set off across Western Canada after it became known in late November that Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency is changing the label for lambda-cyhalothrin insecticide products (e.g., Matador and Silencer) effective April 2023.  At least one company has announced that it will not be making lambda available for the 2023 growing season.  Concerns with the PMRA’s decision include limited alternatives, how U.S. corn and other feed sources will be affected, and an unworkable food/feed distinction on the label that will allow lambda to be applied to crops used for human consumption but not feed.  How did we get here, and what can be done?
