What experience do I need to apply?

The annual Alberta Canola Leaders welcomes young farmers (or farmers that are young in their leadership journey) from across Alberta who are ready to grow their leadership skills and make a difference in agriculture. The program may also offer a limited number of spaces for industry participants, including those planning to return to the farm.

If you’re curious, willing to learn and ready to build your leadership knowledge, skills and experience, Alberta Canola Leaders is for you.

How much does it cost to attend Canola Leaders?

There is no fee to participate in the Canola Leaders program.

Participants are responsible for their own travel costs to and from the hotel in Edmonton. Once you arrive, Alberta Canola covers the cost of your hotel, meals, training sessions and program materials.

When will I hear back about my application?

Applications are open until January 11, 2027, or until all spaces are filled.

We’ll let you know by January 27, 2027, whether you’ve been accepted into the program.

What do I need to wear to the event?

For daytime activities: Dress comfortably but professionally for a day of learning and activities. Dress pants, skirts or jeans paired with a nice shirt or collared shirt are all appropriate. A jacket or blazer is optional. Meeting rooms can fluctuate between warm and cool, so we recommend bringing a sweater or jacket so you can layer as needed.

For the evening banquet: Dress in business professional attire—think suit and tie or a dressier equivalent. The banquet is a more formal evening event, and all attendees will have a professional headshot taken as well as participate in group photos, so come photo-ready!

What happens after I complete the Canola Leaders program?

In many ways, that’s up to you. You can put your new skills and perspectives to work on your farm, in your career, in your community or by taking on new leadership roles in agriculture.

You’ll also become an official Canola Leaders Alumni. Alumni who opt in will receive occasional emails about leadership opportunities, events and other ways to stay connected and involved. You can unsubscribe from these communications at any time.
