Speaker Bio
Verlyn is the founder of Olson + Rau (formerly OlsonLaw). He practiced in Camrose for over thirty years, during which time he was also active in branch offices in Daysland, Forestburg, Killam, Sedgewick and Hardisty.
Verlyn entered politics in 2008 and served as MLA for Wetaskiwin-Camrose until 2015. In 2011 and 2012, he acted as the Minister of Justice and Attorney General. Then in mid-2012, he was appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
After seven eventful years in politics, Verlyn returned to law. He wanted to focus his practice on helping families transition their farms or small businesses to the next generation. With that vision in mind, he founded the firm in 2015.
Verlyn and his wife, Mardell, live near Armena, northwest of Camrose, on land which has been in his family for generations.
They have 3 children, a son-in-law, 2 daughters-in-law and 5 very busy grandchildren.
