Karla became the Executive Director in May 2022 after leading Alberta Canola’s policy development and advocacy for 10 years. As Executive Director, she leads an accomplished team of 10 and oversees all aspects of the commission’s finances and administration, as well as their work in research, grower engagement and extension, public engagement and promotion, and government and industry affairs. The Alberta Canola Producers Commission represents over 12,000 canola farmers in Alberta on evolving local, provincial, national, and international issues that can have a significant impact on their operations. Karla and her team work closely with our national organizations such as the Canola Council of Canada and the Canadian Canola Growers Association, and partner organizations including SaskCanola, Manitoba Canola Growers Association, and Team Alberta Crops to ensure canola farmers’ investment of their levy dollars are working hard on their behalf for betterment of the canola industry.

Prior to joining Alberta Canola, Karla spent 11 years as a Production Economist and Crop Specialist with the Government of Alberta’s agriculture ministry, as well as farming with her husband at Meeting Creek, Alberta. She led the AgriProfit$ Crop Economics program and provided crop production information to farmers as part of a team of Specialists at the Ag-Info Centre. Karla and her family live in St. Albert where she spends all her free time watching her athletic sons play hockey and baseball.
